Upgrading old lighting in schools is vital to help reduce costs and save on carbon.

Dextra have a long-standing relationship with several local authorities around the UK, to help them achieve savings and improve lighting levels.

One of those is Newcastle City Council, where Dextra has supported them in upgrading the lighting in several of its buildings around the city.

One of the latest projects was to replace old unmaintainable and ineffective lighting in South Gosforth Primary School, working with consultant Armstrong Rhead.

South Gosforth Primary School is a large ‘first’ school attended by 330 pupils. The school prides itself on a safe, welcoming and vibrant setting which is at the heart of the local community. The school is a member of the Gosforth Schools Trust where it gains from shared support and collaboration.

In 1992 the school, often referred to as ‘the pyramid school’ due to its large triangular roof structure, opened on a brand-new site, fairly close to the setting of the original building. The current site was purpose built to meet the needs of a modern curriculum and is equipped with many facilities for the school’s children including: two large hall spaces for the children to exercise, eat and perform in, a school field for all kinds of sporting and enrichment activities alongside a playground space with climbing frame and other equipment, two additional ‘creative spaces’ where the children complete art-based activities, and a sensory space.
