Dextra Group are delighted to be working with various learning providers on several apprenticeship cohorts. By offering apprenticeships, we are ensuring that our employees undertaking the programmes have the skill set and work place experience required for their long term role at the company as well as personal professional development in their chosen filed, gained over a period of time. We are able to utilise government funding to upskill our employees through this process, resulting in a well trained, highly skilled and motivated workforce.

Lighting Design Director
I started work at Dextra in the summer of 2000, joining the Internal sales team as technical and lighting design support. I carried out all of the lighting designs requested by customers and our external sales force using a bespoke lighting design package. After five months, I attended the Lighting Industry Federation certificate course and this gave me a good understanding of the technical side of lighting design calculations. I won the David Pritchard award for the student making most progress and also had the second best grade in the country from all the certificate courses held in 2000. Dextra became a member of RELUX in 2002 and I learnt to use this software alongside Auto CAD to enhance Dextra’s design proposals. The Lighting Design department then became a separate facility working alongside the Dextra lighting sales function and in 2003 I became manager, undertaking and passing a BTEC in supervisory management course run by Yeovil College. I now manage a team of 10 designers that undertake all Dextra Group lighting proposals. I also oversee customer / employee technical support as well as carry out product and technical training. I attend various industry events ensuring Dextra are one step ahead of forthcoming changes to UK and European guidelines.

Charge Hand
I started at Dextra in 1994 as a Tester on the Production line. I then moved on to be a wirer on the Manual Emergency line. I transferred to work in the Returns Department when this was established. Dexreco Ltd was launched in 2008 and I was promoted to Charge Hand of the department. Dextra gave me the opportunity to obtain my forklift license as well as undertake a Supervisory Course and a NVQ Level 3 in Logistics. Recently, Dextra have launched a new subsidiary, LEDextra Ltd and my role has expanded to cover the picking and sending out of orders. I have worked at Dextra for 21 years and enjoy my job because every day I learn something new.

Jane Eavis
Assistant Sales Office Manager
I started in Dextra in 2010 as an Internal Sales Representative, dealing with Sales, OEM and export. After a year I became the Internal Projects Co-ordinator working closely with our Lighting Design Department, scheduling and processing all projects. In 2015 I was promoted to the role of Assistant Sales Office Manager.
I have followed the internal product training programme which has proved very beneficial in helping me carry out my role. My job is very varied and includes all aspects of projects from the moment of conception to completion.
Nick Shaw
Technical Services Director
I took an administrative role with Dextra Lighting in 2001, and have since held management positions in Customer Services, Commercial and Product Management. In 2012 I took on the role of Technical Services Director providing technical support to all areas of the company including Sales, Marketing, Lighting Design, Production and Customer Services with a heavy involvement in product development, customer specific solutions and SMT LED circuit manufacturing.
