The 5 Lakes Hotel in Maldon is the latest Potters Resorts’ all-inclusive holiday resort.
Set in 320 acres of Essex countryside, the hotel offers all-inclusive short breaks designed for adults throughout the year. Potters Resorts Five Lakes has a wide variety of activities, entertainment, food and drink.
The new resort boasts the Glade Theatre – a brand new 650 seat theatre featuring state-of-the-art LED walls, lights and sound systems. Also on site is the new Garden Bar and the Eden Restaurants.
Working with contractor MCBS, consultants Clear Consulting and Design LTD and ALH Building Services Design – Norfolk and Designers Leisure Concepts – Warwickshire, Dextra helped Potters Resorts after they purchased the hotel and wanted to update the building with a project turnaround from concept to installed and complete, within just four months.
The main aim was to form all common areas ready for the new opening as a Potter hotel.
After working with MCBS on a number of successful projects, the company introduced Dextra to CCD/ ALH for the purpose of this project. They explained that the project needed a very quick turn around with their first show already booked into the auditorium. They needed a company that was reliable, that could deliver a quick turnaround, while remaining competitively priced. After running through the concepts of the different areas within the hotel, Dextra was asked to assist with the lighting design and offer recommendations of products.
THE PRODUCTS
Another IP Rated luminaire, Protec was used in the toilets and lobby area.Dextra’s popular Protec is available with two reflector options, coloured ring inserts to match corporate themes, drop glass and ring attachments, IP rated covers for bathrooms and wet areas including external under canopy applications and opal or microprism diffuser variants where glare compliance is required. Attachments are easily replaced allowing luminaires to be updated in line with refurbishment avoiding the cost and wastage associated with luminaire replacement.
Used as a surface mounted luminaire for the backstage area, Amenity Decorative luminaires were installed with a special coloured gel added by the contractor. This was used to assist with movement backstage without causing light overspill onto the stage.
In the bar area, an open-plan exposed ceiling was created which required a luminaire that would blend in to the black ceiling area. Here, the Comtec Surface in a black finish, were installed.Elsewhere in the activities area, Dextra’s Highspot luminaires were installed. The Highspot provides a high lumen emergency efficient solution combined with lensed optics ideally suited to high level applications.
In the bar and lounge areas, the LED4S were installed. This luminaire offers a standalone emergency solution for applications where ceilings are unable to accommodate recessed installation. The LED4 was also specified in both surface or recessed formats.
Furthermore, the TWS IP65 L7 was selected for its IP65 rating, with the luminaires fitted in the back of house.
In the activities and indoor bowls area, the Prosport was installed. The Prosport is IK10 rated and manufactured with a steel housing, injection moulded polycarbonate end caps and a curved clear polycarbonate diffuser.
Other products used as part of this project were the Opus Wallpack – used around the exterior of the building and the EXI3 on all exit routes.
