The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is a UK government department with responsibility for environmental protection, food production and rural affairs.
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing energy consumption, DEFRA required a modern, energy-efficient lighting solution for its Horizon House office in Bristol. Having already worked with Dextra Group for a number of years, this project was the largest collaboration between the two organisations to date.
Dextra won this client led project working very closely with ISS and Rider Levitt Bucknall. Working within a very restricted timeline, a competitive tender that had the key objective of replacing an outdated lighting system with a more efficient and intelligent version was achieved.
With DEFRA’s list of specific requirements in mind, Dextra designed and manufactured a bespoke acoustic raft luminaire that would provide both high quality illumination and the desired reduction in energy usage. This bespoke system not only reduced energy consumption and ongoing maintenance costs, but it also improved workplace comfort and efficiency.
A key part of the installation was the specification of Dextra’s Reacta-Link wireless control system, used to remotely manage luminaires and provide emergency lighting reporting. The Reacta-Link system offers intuitive monitoring and control, aiding compliance with health and safety regulations while also maximising energy efficiency.
Furthermore, Dextra’s R44 sensors were integrated into selected fittings to improve automation and further improve energy savings.
The successful completion of this project demonstrates Dextra’s expertise in delivering bespoke lighting solutions designed to help end-users achieve their sustainability goals. By implementing a state-of-the-art lighting system, Horizon House now benefits from reduced energy consumption and maintenance costs, along with an improved working environment.
This project underlines the ongoing partnership between DEFRA and Dextra Group, demonstrating a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability.
