Dover Port – East Control Tower, Kent

Showcasing how the correct lighting can enhance your ability to do your job couldn’t be more relevant with one of Dextra’s latest projects at the Port of Dover.

The installation of new luminaires at the East Control Tower, at the Port, were vital to help staff being able to view out to sea, so it was important that the lighting was not only the correct type for this use, but also that it was controllable.

The Port had a firm interest in being able to wirelessly monitor the emergency luminaires along with utilising a full scalable solution to fully control all aspects of their lighting with an on-site flexible functionality and this is ultimately why the Dextra Reacta Control system was selected and installed.

Dover Port is the UK’s busiest international ferry port, with unrivalled location, frequency, and capacity. Over 10 million passengers, over 1.3 million tourist vehicles and two million freight vehicles choose Dover as their gateway to the Continent and UK.

As an international gateway, the Port of Dover provides important operational and safety information for the benefit of its customers and users of the Port.

Port of Dover is also committed to reducing its carbon emissions and has set challenging targets to achieve this.

Climate change is recognised globally, and as such, the UK Government has recognised and set ambitious targets to bring all GHG emissions to net-zero by 2050, including all of its maritime operations.

On this project, Dextra worked with Jager Electrical Contractors and consultant Mott Macdonald.
