In general terms luminaires need to be robust, reliable and easy to maintain/upgrade with a high ingress protection rating. They should be designed to prevent the accumulation of dust, dirt and fluids to help minimise the risk of contamination and have the ability to withstand the varied operating temperatures that are often found in these demanding environments.

COLD STORAGE
There has been a significant surge in the need for industrial cold storage facilities over the last two decades, driven by the growing demand for fresh and frozen foods. These buildings typically operate with ambient temperatures of -30 degrees centigrade and therefore require specialist lighting solutions that can withstand these conditions.
Light fittings should have a minimum IP65 rating to withstand moisture and potential condensation. Where viable the use of remote gear packs for both mains drivers and emergency components is often desirable. This allows for quick and simple maintenance of parts outside of the cold store and it also helps to minimise the amount of heat emitted into the chilled environment, reducing the load on the cooling system.
