With a wide range of green initiatives it can be a challenge for manufacturers to choose those which will become widely accepted in the industry long term. CIBSE TM65 embodied carbon and TM66 circularity appear to have had the widest impact to date. At Dextra Group we have adopted both allowing us to provide embodied carbon data for every SKU we manufacture along with circularity assessments for each of our product ranges. In accordance with these memorandums we ensure that all our luminaires are easily repaired using components from premium manufacturers that are both widely available and offer state of the art life expectancy. Where possible we design our products to be upgraded with a one piece gear tray at end of life allowing the housing and optics to be reused for multiple life cycles. Our product designs minimise embodied carbon and where possible utilise recycled materials. We only use premium LEDs and drivers combined with the most efficient possible optic designs reducing operational costs and minimising operational carbon which is typically where the majority of emissions occur.
Alongside eliminating all single use plastics in our packaging, a new solar installation capable of generating the majority of our power needs during good weather and an ongoing programme of energy reduction in our factory, Dextra Group has also committed to set near-term company-wide emission reductions in line with climate science with the SBTi. We are a proud participant of the UN Global Compact and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dextra Group are committed to ethical and sustainable business practices and adopt responsible behaviours that support our core values, we therefore take account of our social, economic and environmental impact benefitting the environment, our employees, customers and communities in which we operate, both locally and further afield.
