The Nightingale Hospital in Exeter has a short but interesting history.
The hospital was initially part of the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic, caring for nearly 250 patients with COVID-19 from across Devon, Somerset and Dorset.
It has now been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility and is home to several key services including the Devon Diagnostic Centre, the Centre of Excellence for Eyes and The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Rheumatology department.
On 10 April 2020, the Chief Nursing Officer for England announced that a temporary NHS Nightingale hospital would open in Exeter to help tackle COVID-19. Just six weeks later, a 116-bed, state-of-the-art COVID-19 inpatient hospital was built and ready to care for local people.
After the pandemic and caring for many covid patients, in May 2021, it was announced that the Nightingale would receive a share of funding from the National Accelerator Systems Programme, which was awarded to Devon to support the reduction in waiting times.
Royal Devon and Exeter NHS, Trust The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was established in April 2022, bringing together the expertise of both the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.
Recently, Dextra was commissioned to provide LED lighting so that old fluorescent lighting could be replaced to help reduce running costs and improve the overall feel of the children’s ward at the hospital. This was the overall aim when Dextra designed the lighting for the ward.
On this project, Dextra worked with contractor EX2 Group LTD and consultant SDS Solutions.
